The Good People Of America Pt. I

Our time in balmy Ft Myers is drawing to a close and it's time to start what will become a regular feature on FFT09. A trip of this magnitude was always going to require the hospitality and good will of friends and strangers to keep us on track. Thankfully we've already received mountainous helpings of both. Here's the first installment of 'The Good People of America'.

Johnny: Our pick up man from Miami International proved to be so much more than that. He gave us the perfect introduction to the US with no nonsense advice and a healthy dose of hip hop.

Best Moment - 'Remember your hats boys. There's a lot of sick people out there.'

Christopher and Rachel: Dot and Bill's nephew and his girlfriend who gave us the first night out of the tour. What was already a great evening at the Fous residence became the all American bar experience we'd all been waiting for and it was all down to these guys and their limitless sense of fun. We drank, we danced, we were oh so very merry.

Best Moment - Dancing and screaming our lungs off to a kick-ass Kid Rock cover.

Roy: Our insurance man who hooked us up but made a much bigger impression (on Scottish Stevie at least). This guy really has it going on. He peppered us with stories from his days following oil from Aberdeen to Africa and knocking people off their feet on the ice rink. He showed us some talent on the ocky and gave us some great places to visit in Boston. Oh yeah, and his wife is gorgeous.

Best Moment - Anytime he cracked out the Scottish accent. 'Fit Like?'

Dot and Bill: To be honest our hosts for the last 3 days deserve a post of their own but this will hopefully do them justice. We cannot say thank you enough for what these two have done for us the last few months, finding us a car making it all legal. Although we've had a few stresses in the last couple of weeks, since we arrived Dot has run around tirelessly for us and as of a couple of hours ago FFT09 is road worthy. We've been fed and watered to bursting point and acclimatised to the tropical conditions by lounging around the pool and their beautiful house. Bill has been working non stop since we got here but has still taken time out to sort the car out and keep us entertained in the evenings. His Poker tutorial was a real eye opener and I think English Glen and Neil now have even bigger plans for Vegas. As excited as we all are to get on the road tomorrow it will be tinged with a little sadness that we have to leave the Fous House behind (They may not say the same!). Thank you again, FFT09 would never have been possible without you.

Best Moment - Far too many to count but the party last night was easily the most American 4 hours of my life and for that I say once again: Thank You.
